Letters of Certain Jews to Monsieur Voltaire: Containing an Apology for Their Own People, and for the Old Testament
with Critical Reflections and a short commentary extracted from a greater; with christian notes and additions on various parts of the work, translated by P Lefanu, 2 vol. in 1, 3rd american edition, with corrections, Philadelphia: Herman Hooker, Cincinnati: George G. Jones, 1848, 612 total pages. Cloth hardcover
Interesting, in that the larger body of his work went far to engender an intellectual climate throughout Europe which greatly benefited Jews. Still, his works are replete with attacks on the Jews and their religion, and the present volume is an example of some of the push-back against that rethoric.
